Adventures in Quilting AND Learning to Blog

Blogging is new to me but after viewing the movie Julie-Julia (or is it the other way around?) I decided to give this a try. This week is the first week officially in my new quilting studio so I'll share the adventures (that only quilters can relate to, no doubt) as I muddle my way through the experiences.

Readers may notice that I write the way I talk - too many hours of "correct" English required for my full-time (paying) job make the process of jotting random thoughts a real treat.

To update what I am sure to be absolutely thousands of readers (hah!), we actually completed construction on the quilting studio/hubby's workshop building a year ago, but have been living in it while our house was constructed. This week we moved into the house and vacated (almost) my beloved studio. I now have the task of removing the remaining jetsam and flotsam of living here and relegating odd items to some other place over in the house. Attics are wonderful things, indeed! I keep promising myself and my quilting machine that there is hope and relief is coming soon. :)

I have two quilting projects on hold currently.
  • The first I actually started cutting over a year ago - it's a One Block Wonder wall hanging for a special spot in our new house. Colors are yummy - I'll post pictures of this in progress in a few days and share my mistakes and triumphs as I learn by experimentation.
  • The second project is to create two quilted "throws" for my living room. We went a little overboard on browns and matchy-matchy accessories so now I need to pop a little color into the scheme. Took our over-the-fireplace picture in hand to Creations quilt shop to select batiks. http://creations-interactive.com/blog/ A truly spiritual experience every time I go and the staff are so supportive and encouraging. I'm drooling over the purchases as we speak but must control myself and clean the studio before I cut or sew anything. Self discipline for an addicted quilter is a unique and terrible life experience, but I must assume that like all spiritual processes, sacrifice will mold me into a better lump of clay.
Ok.. talking about sacrifices doesn't substitute for action so I'll get off my duff and start vacuuming and cleaning (ugh!)
